The Southmayd Center is sponsoring 5 W&L student leaders to attend The Steamboat Institute’s annual Freedom Conference a chance to hear from engaging speakers, network with like-minded individuals, and spend a weekend in beautiful Beaver Creek, Colorado!

Sage Steele was also at the conference, and we got to hang out with her a bit but no one took a picture. On October 5, 2021, Steele was suspended by ESPN for remarks she made on Jay Cutler’s September 29 podcast about COVID-19 vaccine mandates, women who dress in a way she feels is provocative, and Barack Obama calling himself black even though he, like Steele, has a white mother. Another conservative woman cut loose for her conservatism by the corporate liberals.
Jennifer Schubert-Akin the founder and President of the Steamboat Institute loved having the W&L students at the Freedom Conference and gave us quality time. She brought the DEI debate to W&L in October 2023 (under the sponsorship of the Southmayd Center) and loved the campus and history of W&L.
We were able to meet and sit down with former Israelle Ambassador to the U.S. Michael B. Oran, and arranged a personal interview with him for the associate editor of The Spectator
The Southmayd Center brought 4 student leaders from Washington & Lee University to the Steamboat Institute Freedom Conference at the Hyatt Resort in Beaver Creek, Colorado from August 23-24.
Emmy award winning investigative reporter Catherin Herridge was at the Freedom Festival to discuss her career and her shocking firing by CBS news via a text following which CBS locked her out of her office and confiscated all her confidential investigative files and personal items. CBS did not want a conservative on their news staff during an election year working on the Biden investigation. She had to sue to get her files and personal items in her office back, but only after CBS reviewed everything. We were pleased to get to hang with Catherine for a bit and the students were thrilled to do so.
